In quietness and confidence shall be your strength. Isaiah 30:15 (NKJV)
The rate at which we set our fear aside, is the rate our confidence in God grows. Fear binds us, while confidence releases us into the strength of the Lord. To put it another way, our perception of a situation changes when our awareness of God’s presence increases.
Back in the late 80s, early 90s, there was a chorus that we often sang in our youth fellowship – punching the air to emphasise our ‘No! No! No!’ It echoed the words of the Lord to Joshua:
Be bold, be strong, for the Lord thy God is with you. Be bold, be strong, for the Lord thy God is with you. I am not afraid (No! No! No!), I am not dismayed (No way!), For I’m walking in faith and victory, c’mon, walk in faith and victory, For the Lord thy God is with you.
Let us then with confidence draw near to the throne of grace, that we may receive mercy and find grace to help in time of need. Hebrews 4:16
Through Christ, and through our faith in Him, we can boldly and confidently come to God. This is not an arrogant boldness, but a reverent awe that enables us to set aside the fear of approaching Almighty God and replaces it with a quiet confidence to enter the holy of holies.
To find our strength in quietness is to find it in the peace and tranquillity of the presence of the Lord, and in His presence, our confidence grows. Wait on him in the quietness and let him speak to you. Breath him in and let him fill every corner of your being.
Take a moment to quieten your heart before the Lord. Wait for Him in the stillness and allow Him time to speak to you. Then let His words strengthen you with confidence.
Chorus: Be Bold, Be Strong (1983) by Morris Chapman
