God's Presence, Truth

There is No Other

No other being, alive or dead, compares to our God, and no other god comes anywhere close to being in the vicinity of comparable in any way.

MOSES asks in worship: ‘Who is like you, O LORD, among the gods? Who is like you, majestic in holiness, awesome in glorious deeds, doing wonders?’ (Exodus 15:11)

HANNAH declared: ‘There is none holy like the LORD: for there is none besides you; there is no rock like our God. (1 Samuel 2:2)

THE PSALMIST questions: ‘Who is like the LORD our God, who is seated on high?’ (Psalm 113:5)

GOD himself poses the question: ‘To whom will you liken me and make me equal, and compare me, that we may be alike?’ (Isaiah 46:5) ‘For I am God, and there is no other; I am God, and there is none like me.’ (Isaiah 46:9)

Yet, in the face of this truth, there are still those who would rather put their faith in something other than the creator of the universe. So, they craft inanimate objects – objects that need to be carried, for they cannot walk; objects that they decorate themselves with silver and gold, and then secure in place with hammer and nails. They speak to it, sing to it, pray to it, but it can never respond in any way whatsoever because it has no breath within itself.

It is such a sad and futile practice, but that doesn’t stop millions of people around the world creating and worshipping ‘gods of wood and stone, that neither see, nor hear, nor eat, nor smell’ (Deuteronomy 4:28); gods that feel nothing, give nothing, do nothing.

We worship a God who is not blind. We worship a God who is not deaf. We worship a God who is not mute. Our God lives and moves and speaks! He hears our cries and surrounds us with His presence. He feels everything that we feel; He gives freely and generously out of His abundant storehouse, and He never stops ‘doing’, for He is constantly working on our behalf.
