Promises, Truth

The Wise Choice

The little word ‘If’ in this verse may be small, but it comes with enormous implications. ‘If’ speaks of choice — our daily, moment-by-moment decision to either lean into God’s wisdom or walk stubbornly in our own understanding. Listening to God and deferring to Him in faithful obedience brings us a joy and a peace that we can never achieve through self-reliance. It is precisely because of that obedience that we can receive a deeper, richer understanding of God’s Word through His Spirit.

But first comes reproof. None of us naturally enjoy being corrected. Our instinct is often to defend ourselves by justifying our choices. Yet here, God’s reproof is not a condemnation — it is an invitation. It is the loving hand of a Father steering His child away from harm and toward something far greater. To “turn at His reproof” is to humble ourselves, to acknowledge that His ways are higher than ours, and to choose His path over our own.

When God says “I will,” He is not offering a tentative suggestion — He is making a covenant promise. Also, notice the language that used – He is not sending a sprinkling of His Spirit, or even a carefully measured portion, but an outpouring. Like rain soaking the parched ground, His Spirit is poured out without measure, saturating us with His presence, His strength, and His power to live transformed lives.

Alongside the gift of the Spirit comes the gift of revelation. God Himself opens up His Word to us. We should never be blasé about Scripture, for it is living truth that brings comfort in our darkest moments, courage for every battle, and continually refreshes our souls.
