I will instruct you and teach you in the way you should go; I will counsel you with my eye upon you. Psalm 32:8
I recently went on a very nice walk around the lake at Castlewellan Forest Park. There were a number of routes to choose from, each with varying degrees of length, time and energy require. The day I was there, was a leisurely stroll kind of day, simply to enjoy the fresh air and scenery, which the lake walk delivered beautifully. Although there were a number of turn-offs along the way, our route was clearly signposted.
After the walk, as we were heading back to the car, we saw a sign for a maze and decided that we might as well have a go – how hard could it be? After a while, it appeared that a map would be helpful. Thankfully I’d taken a photo of the maze before going in, so we’d be fine. We weren’t fine, we were still lost. It was time to call in the big-guns – Mr Google maps himself. Unfortunately, pinpoint accuracy in a place with lots of hedges and narrow paths proved problematic, but we eventually made it to the centre.
Life can sometimes feel like we are trying to find our way through a maze. Choosing which direction to turn is not always easy when we feel disorientated, and when all sense of direction is lost, we might as well be walking with a blindfold on.
“I will counsel you with my eye upon you.”
How reassuring it is to know that the Lord is constantly watching over us. Not only is He watching, He is willing to talk us through the tough decisions and difficult circumstances. Just listen to the words that He uses – I will instruct; teach; counsel – He is the direction giver; He is the one we go to for help.
The only way to navigate a maze is by having a bird’s-eye view. God sees the full picture of our situation, which means that He can direct us with complete clarity. The onus is on us to be both open and responsive to His instruction.
The Lord will never lead us the wrong way – so we listen, trust, and follow His guidance in all that we do.
