To him who rides in the heavens, the ancient heavens; behold, he sends out his voice, his mighty voice. Psalm 68:33
Have you heard the voice of the Lord? There will be a wide range of answers to this question, ranging from, ‘Yes, He speaks to me every day,’ to ‘I want to hear it, but sometimes I don’t know if it’s His voice or my own that I hear.’ It would be wonderful if we could literally have an out-loud conversation with God – an audible voice that answered our questions and concerns. It would make life, or aspects of our lives, so much easier, wouldn’t it? I have often wondered what it would’ve been like to be Moses, with whom God spoke ‘face to face, as a man speaks to his friend’ (Exodus 33:11), or Abraham, or Samuel, or the many other occasions we read about in the Bible, concerning conversations with God.
The voice of the LORD is powerful; the voice of the LORD is full of majesty. Psalm 29:4
The Lord sends out His voice – a powerful voice that can be heard in the roar of the ocean, the crash of the waves, the thunderclap and the hurricane. A voice that is heard in the majesty of creation – the sunrise and the mountains, flora and fauna. The songs of the deep and the birdsong of the skies – they all carry the voice of their Creator.
God speaks to us in many different ways. His voice comes through the inspired words of scripture and quiet moments of time spend wholly with Him. It comes through starry displays and delicate petals, the kindness of a stranger and the encouragement of a friend.
The Lord sends His voice out across the heavens and the earth for us to hear, and when we take the time to listen, we will hear it loud and clear.
Let me encourage you today to actively listen for the sound of God’s voice, for it will enrich your soul and strengthen your spirit.
