As it is written, ‘what no eye has seen, nor ear heard, nor the heart of man imagined, what God has prepared for those who love him.’ 1 Corinthians 2:9
The apostle Paul follows the theme of wisdom and folly between God and mankind, pointing out that in our natural sinful state, we cannot see or understand the things of God.
Each of us has our own way of learning, and we know what works best for us. Some people understand things simply by reading text, others need to hear things explained, and some need something visual in order to tie the facts together. Understanding God’s word, however, belongs in a different arena altogether.
The bible has been read by millions, and yet many have dismissed it as nonsense, unable to comprehend the truth within it. This is because God’s Word cannot be fully grasped through our own intellect; it can only come to life through spiritual discernment.
1 Corinthians 2:9 is the lock. Verse 10 is the key:
These things God has revealed to us through the Spirit. For the Spirit searches everything, even the deep things of God.
What God has prepared for us is only fully revealed and understood by those who love Him. It is impossible for the sinful soul to comprehend spiritual truths, but the forgiven soul has communion with God through the Spirit. This is how we arrive at those ‘lightbulb’ moments – because we are allowing the Holy Spirit to guide us into truth.
What a wonderful blessing and privilege it is, that we can know the heart of God. So don’t just skim read scripture. Find your best way of understanding God’s Word – whatever way you learn best – and let it permeate through the depths of your soul.

Thank you, Carolyn, for helping people understand how Christ’s invitation serves as the key that unlocks scripture. Once unlocked, it’s the blessing that keeps on giving, now and forever.
