God's Love, Grace, Mercy

Such Love

A Sunday School prize that I received when I about 7 or 8 years old was a framed picture of a little girl holding a lamb with Romans 5:8 quoted along the bottom. It was the KJV version of the version of the verse, which said, “God commendeth his love toward us …”, I didn’t really know what the word ‘commendeth’ meant except that it was something good and I repeated the verse every night before going to bed. As I think back on it now, the picture has become even more special as I consider the lamb that was slain, the Lamb of God.

The incredible aspect of God’s love for us is that He did not wait until we were good enough to deserve saving. There was no yardstick to measure up to; no criteria to achieving His love. He commended his love toward us, showing us the full extent of it, while we were yet sinners. There is nothing we could have done to move Him toward such compassion. The truth is, from the moment He created us, He loved us and He chose us to be His very own.
