Long ago, at many times and in many ways, God spoke to our fathers by the prophets, but in these last days he has spoken to us by his Son, whom he appointed the heir of all things, through whom also he created the world. Hebrews 1:1-2
For hundreds of years the prophets proclaimed the word and promise of God — and then heaven fell silent. It was the angels who came and broke that silence, declaring God’s promise once more. There is such profound symmetry in how God chose to speak across the ages: at the beginning of the Old Testament, He spoke and the Word brought life; at the beginning of the New Testament, God spoke again and the Word became life — and that life was the light of men (John 1:4).
The Word of God is powerful, and where it is spoken, amazing things happen. Blindness gives way to clear vision; ignorance to understanding; mourning to song. Fear is turned to confidence, weakness to strength, and despair to hope. The Word brings freedom. It brings light. It brings life.
The lessons we learn at the feet of Jesus are invaluable. They teach us the truth of who God is, the truth of the Holy Spirit, and the truth of the kingdom. Yet these truths do more than reveal God to us — they lead us on a journey of self-discovery. Through the revelation of the Father, Son, and Spirit, we also find ourselves – the people we were made to be – chosen by God for His own will and purpose. Many people travel many roads in search of enlightenment, but it is only through the living Word of God that we discover who we truly are.
So, listen to what is spoken by the Son. Drink it in deeply, and let it fill every part of your being.
