God's Love

More Than Stars

Have you ever stood beneath a clear night sky and simply looked up? At first, you count a handful of stars. But the longer you gaze, the more appear — faint lights that are missed at first glance slowly reveal themselves. Cluster after cluster, a universe of brightness you couldn’t take in all at once, begins to fill the dark spaces. It seems the sky is always holding something more in reserve.

God’s love for us is like that starry sky.

Just when you think you have grasped the fullness of it —having experienced His forgiveness, His faithfulness, His provision — He stretches wider still. There is always more: More grace, more compassion, more comfort. More of Himself.

Isaiah tells us that the same God who calls every star by name, is the God who calls each one of us by name. A truth echoed by the Lord Jesus, the Good Shepherd: ‘He calls his own sheep by name and leads them out’ (John 10:3). We are not loved from a distance the way we might admire a constellation. The love of God is as close to us as He is; it’s a personal love, providing for our personal needs every single day.

The Psalmist said in wonder, ‘How precious to me are your thoughts, O God! How vast is the sum of them!’ (Psalm 139:17). Don’t you find it incredible that you are on God’s mind? The amount of love that Elohim has for His creation is as vast as His thoughts. It cannot be counted – not because it is distant, but because it is inexhaustible.

So, when you feel as though you have exhausted God’s patience, or forgiveness, or grace; or when you feel that you are too small to be seen – lift your eyes. Look longer, look deeper, and watch as His love is revealed.
