For now we see in a mirror dimly, but then face to face. Now I know in part; then I shall know fully, even as I have been fully known. 1 Corinthians 13:12
Have you ever tipped a jigsaw puzzle onto the table and felt a moment of quiet despair? Hundreds of scattered pieces, no obvious order, no clear sense of how they could ever form something whole and beautiful to look at. Life can feel exactly like that at time – the despair of fractured relationships, unanswered prayer, hopes and plans that have collapsed. Unwanted pieces that simply do not seem to fit the picture we envisaged.
Today’s verse reminds us that what we see is not what God sees. While our view is tarnished, His remains clear. He sees the full detail of the picture and He knows how the pieces fit together. What looks like jumbled chaos to us, looks like a masterpiece in the to God.
For I know the plans I have for you, declares the Lord, plans for welfare and not for evil, to give you a future and a hope. Jeremiah 29:11
The prophet Jeremiah heard God speak into one of Israel’s most difficult seasons – exiled in Babylon, far from home, with no clear end in sight. Into that confusion, God spoke hope, for He could see what they could not.
He does the same for you and me. The piece that makes no sense today — the grief, the waiting, the sudden change of direction — has not slipped from His hands. God is never caught off guard. Everything has purpose, and it is sometimes worked out across timelines that are longer than we would like.
Every piece of the puzzle is needed and one day, face to face, the beauty of the picture will become clear. We are fully known by God, and that is not simply a comfort – it is everything.
Trust the hands that hold every piece of your life and have faith in the plans He has made.
