Hope, Promises, Truth

Patient in Hope

What a comfort and blessing it is to have hope, a real living hope. The moment we were saved by God’s grace, hope lodged itself in our hearts. It is through this hope of eternal life and future glory with Christ that our salvation is lived out and our faith is sustained, in the here and now. It is not based on whimsical dreaming of what might be but on the promises of God for what will be.

The promise from Jesus is that we will one day be where He is, and where he is, is in the heavenly kingdom of the Father. It is there that He is preparing a place for us; a place, as yet, unseen.

It is actually quite a foreign concept for us to hope for something that cannot be visualised. We are more accustomed to seeing something we want or need, followed by the hope of getting it. The young girl looking in the jeweller’s window, for example, or the person feeling stressed, who finds the perfect getaway. But then, once the ring is on the finger or the sand is between the toes, hope is no longer required. For a lot of people, hope is one of those things that is dusted off every now and again and then put back in the box. Hope is attached to things that don’t last, but where is the fulfilment in that?

Praise God that the hope we have is a permanent fixture in our lives – always active, always real, and always in anticipation of the promise to come. This is the wonder of our hope – being absolutely convinced of the glorious things that are to come, and being completely willing to wait patiently for them.
