The Truth Shield

Every word of God proves true; he is a shield to those who take refuge in him. Proverbs 30:5

In a world full of mistrust, fake news, slander, rumours and gossip, it is reassuring to have a firm and sure foundation on which to build our faith. God’s Word is true and it is upon this truth that we find our security and our freedom.

The Lord Jesus proclaimed that, “he who sent me is true, and I declare to the world what I have heard from him” (John 8:26). Jesus not only spoke truth, He is truth. When we choose to follow Him, we have this assurance:

If you abide in my word, you are truly my disciples, and you will know the truth and the truth will set you free. John 8:31

We have been set free. If we remain rooted in the Word of God, His truth will continuously be revealed to us, so that we will no longer be enslaved by the lies of the devil. Jesus said that the devil “does not stand in the truth because there is no truth in him. When he lies, he speaks out of his own character, for he is a liar and the father of lies” (John 8:44). The enemy may try to convince us that our freedom is not real, but the blood of Jesus Christ assures us otherwise.

Let the truth of God’s Word be a shield to all the arrows of lies that come from the devil.
