I will bless the Lord at all times; his praise shall continually be in my mouth. Psalm 34:1
David did not write this psalm during a happy, easy time, but through a difficult and distressing time. Saul was pursuing him in order to kill him, and that is what makes this declaration all the more amazing. David never stopped praising God because when he cried out for his attention, the Lord heard him and saved him. Through this act of mercy, David encourages us with this truth:
The angel of the Lord encamps around those who fear him, and delivers them. (v7)
The Lord’s ear is open to the cries of his people. He hears us and he listens to our calls of distress. His compassion toward us moves Him to actively surround us with love, mercy, and protection.
When the righteous cry for help, the Lord hears; The Lord is near to the broken hearted and saves the crushed in spirit. (v17,18)
Have you lost your song? Are you finding it difficult to lift your heart in praise? Our ever-present Father not only hears your cry, He also sees your fragile state. He sees the things that cause you distress and that rob you of hope and joy. At those time, He draws near to you and holds you until your song returns.
Praise Him for his compassion; praise him for his comforting strength. Whatever you are facing, you are facing it with Him, so bless the Lord and let his praise continue to flow from your mouth.

We have a great example in David. I love the Psalms.

Couldn’t agree more. I love his honesty in every situation, and the fact that he doesn’t hide his brokenness.
