Beloved, let us love one another, for love is from God, and whoever loves has been born of God and knows God. 1 John 4:7
True love is a powerful thing, and it is most visible through our actions and behaviour. Loving words are nice to hear, but love through action means so much more. It’s good to hear love, but it doesn’t compare to the experience of feeling love. To know God is to know true love and to experience pure love, for He is the ultimate definition of what love is.
Everything that you do is an expression of who you are, for better or for worse. Your actions, your attitude and your words, all tell the story of you. Does that story contain genuine love? For the Christian, there is an obligation to demonstrate love in our everyday lives. There is no excuse for it not to be there and there is no excuse for not knowing ‘how’. God showed us how. Jesus showed us how.
God demonstrated his love toward us in that while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us. Romans 5:8.
Just as I have loved you, you also are to love one another. By this all people will know that you are my disciples. John 13:34,35
It is incredibly hard for us to understand the depth of God’s love. Even having experienced it, we find it difficult to fully grasp, and yet it is this love that He wants us to extend to each other. The key is in getting to know God better and in understanding the lessons Christ taught. The love that we give, or show, is the litmus test of the depth of our relationship with God. What a challenging truth.
God’s act of love should move us into active love. This comes from being personally affected by our relationship with God, which then spills over into all our other relationships.
