Don’t Give Up

And let us not grow weary of doing good, for in due season we will reap, if we do not give up. Galatians 6:9

Sow thoughtfully and continue to be a doer, for in due season we will reap, if we do not give up.  Everything we do matters and every choice we make changes the future, but if we live by the Spirit and by His guiding, He will lead us in doing good things.

Today’s verse, though, appears to suggest that it is possible to get tired of doing good things, which seems strange. How could you ever get tired of doing something that is good? This probably comes about because we are, after all, still only human and we have a basic need to feel appreciated. Putting time and energy into something and getting nothing in return can be discouraging. So, maybe it’s not that we get tired of doing good but rather, we become exhausted from all the ‘doing.’

For the most part, we will only do something for so long when there appears to be no thanks for it. If, however, we are only doing something for the praise and recognition then we are definitely doing it for the wrong reason.

God wants us to do good things without the need for immediate results. A seed that is sown does not immediately produce a plant. When we do good for the Lord, we are planting a seed – we then water, tend, and wait. The good that we do does not go unseen by God. He is watching, for ‘the eyes of the Lord are over the righteous’ (1 Peter 3:12).

The Lord has supplied us with all that we need to carry out the good works that He has given us to do. Let Him set the pace and then walk with Him patiently and faithfully.

Do not give up and do not grow weary of doing good because, when the time is right, your patience will be rewarded and God’s rewards are always worth waiting for.
