Don’t Get Disconnected

Our connection with God – our union with Him – is the heartbeat of our spiritual life. We know that we need to be connected to Him and have fellowship with Him, but occasionally we feel a separation, not because God has moved, but because we have. We lose focus by looking inward and our closeness to the Lord suffers. Our walk can sometimes become more about us and less about Him, and in those times, we are vulnerable to selfish choices.

Self is a wayward character; one that needs the precepts of God in order to make good decisions. Our choices matter. When we have the opportunity to show kindness but choose indifference, or when we could have spoken truth but said nothing, or when we could have forgiven but held onto resentment, we contributed to a disconnect from God.

Disconnection doesn’t only happen by doing what we shouldn’t have, but also through not doing what we should. When we don’t pray for one another, when we rush into the day without handing it over to God. When we skip our quiet-time and don’t spend proper time with God, talking to Him and listening to Him, we allow the light of our lives to dim. And the darkness wreaks havoc with our spiritual connection with the Father, Son and Spirit.

Thankfully, we are children of a very patient Father, who waits to restore us back to Him. God’s faithfulness to us never changes. He never chooses indifference or resentment. He chooses love, kindness, compassion and forgiveness. He made us for union with Him and He will always work to that end.
