You will be enriched in every way to be generous in every way, which through us will produce thanksgiving to God. 2 Corinthians 9:11
Throughout our lives, our needs and our wants are often verbalised, and honestly, in most cases there is nothing wrong with expressing either one. From needing a pen that works to wanting a little bit of ‘me’ time, the words are interchangeable. It is when we start to drift into continually wanting what we don’t need, that we should probably rethink our priorities.
For I have learned, in whatever situation I am, to be content. Philippians 4:11
Paul discovered that contentment was not found in things or circumstances but in Christ. He learned, just as king David did, that when we belong to the Lord we lack nothing. This is not resigning ourselves to believing that we won’t get everything we want, but fully trusting that God will provide everything we need.
And my God will supply every need of yours according to his riches in glory in Christ Jesus. Philippians 4:19
God’s grace in our lives is abundant and His Word assures us that we will have ‘all sufficiency in all things at all times, that you may abound in every good work’ (2 Cor 9:8). God’s generosity does not stop at what will suffice – it overflows in what we need so that we can pass it on! God’s sufficiency leads us to generosity, for we are enriched in every way to be generous in every way. The provision of God is not for us to hoard, but for us to share.
When we give freely to others, letting God’s goodness overflow into their lives, we reflect the One who not only gives everything to us, but who also gave everything for us.
