Praise, Thanksgiving, Worship

A Time of Thanks

When we think back over the week that has past and all of the times that we talked to God, how many times did we come to Him to simply say ‘thank-you’? Do we have a balance between prayers of petition and prayers of thanksgiving? We often incorporate both, which is good and proper and is how the Lord taught us to pray, but shouldn’t there also be time set aside for the sole purpose of praise?

What were the things that happened during the week that were good and made us smile; what were we grateful for? Using a diary or a journal can be a useful tool in focusing our thanks. At the end of a week, or the start of a new one, we can simply open the dairy and look at where we’ve been, what we’ve done and who we have talked to or been with. Without doubt, there will be something in each day that we can be grateful for and it is a good thing to remind ourselves of that, and to give thanks.

This is a great exercise to do and, if you don’t already do this, I would encourage you to try it, for when we exercise our hearts and minds in the direction of God, we become so much more aware of the extent of His blessings.
