Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewal of your mind, that by testing you may discern what is the will of God, what is good and acceptable and perfect. Romans 12:2
Transformation comes from a life changing encounter with God, a transformation that sets us apart unto Him. It is no longer our way and our will, but His way and His will. ‘For this is the will of God, your sanctification’ (1 Thess 4:3).
We live a world where our beliefs are often in conflict with society at large. Sometimes the conflict is loud and obvious; sometimes quiet and subtle. In both cases, we need to be vigilant towards the influences that go against God’s truth. Conforming to the standards, attitudes and practices of society leads us back onto the broad path, and away from the will of God. Away from God’s holy standard.
For at one time you were darkness, but now you are light in the Lord. Walk as children of light, and try to discern what is pleasing to the Lord. Ephesians 5:8,10
There is no denying that life is complicated and it can be hard to navigate at times. And, although God’s truth is black and white – we often live within various shades of grey. The pressure to conform comes at us continually, which is why transformation is an ongoing experience. Discernment comes through the Spirit, so, the more attuned we are to Him, the more able we will be in discerning those things that aren’t moving us towards holiness. Bit by bit, as we stand in the truth of God’s Word and live in His will, we are being gloriously transformed into the image of the Son, our Lord and Saviour, Jesus Christ.
But as he who called you is holy, you also be holy in all your conduct. 1 Peter 1:15
Our lives are not centred around pleasing the masses; they are centred on pleasing God in all that is good, acceptable and perfect.
