Oh, the depth of the riches and wisdom and knowledge of God! How unsearchable are his judgements and how inscrutable his ways! Romans 11:33
This is the reason that we learn to trust God, for His knowledge is beyond our comprehension. His ways are so far beyond our understanding that even King David proclaimed ‘such knowledge is too wonderful for me; it is high; I cannot attain it’ (Psalm 139:6). When something is described as inscrutable, it means that it is unsearchable / untraceable / past finding out (KJV). In thinking about these things, a friend of mine said, ‘God wouldn’t do well in maths exams, because he doesn’t show us his working out. Instead, we have to trust that he has done the working out, and accept his answer.’
Your way was through the sea, your path through the great waters; yet your footprints were unseen. Psalm 77:19
That is what it is like to try and discern the thoughts of God – looking for a footprint in the water. There are some things we are just not meant to know this side of heaven. This is something that each of us has to come to terms with.
There are also things we can know through faithful study of God’s Word which He has given for our training in righteousness that we may be competent and equipped for His service (2 Timothy 3:17).
Behold, God is my salvation; I will trust and will not be afraid. Isaiah 12:2
To put our trust in God is to trust Him in all circumstances without question and without doubt, knowing that all things are being worked together for His glory and our good.
