The Spirit of Life

Those who have been redeemed have entered into new life, in the Spirit, in Christ. The birth of a Saviour brought hope into a world of sin; the birth of pure innocence for a people steeped in ignorance. And the hope was this,

Life within us – not just the hope of eternal life yet to come but the joy of a hope realised in this very moment! For God, by His Spirit, gives life to our mortal bodies (verse 11), this body that we are currently walking about in. The only time we will have a mortal body is here and now, which tells us that the Spirit of Life is not a ‘has-been’ experience or a ‘will-be’ experience, but an ‘is-now’ experience. Jesus said, “I came that they may have life and have it abundantly” (John 10:10).

I think we are all guilty, from time to time, of not truly realising this fullness of life that dwells within us; I know I am. The world clambers on top of us with its fear and uncertainty and we allow ourselves to get dragged down into the miry clay, instead of reminding ourselves that the Lord has drawn us up and set our feet on the rock.
