For I am not ashamed of the gospel, for it is the power of God for salvation to everyone who believes, to the Jew first and also to the Greek. Romans 1:16
Shame is a terrible feeling to have. Shame takes hold of hope, joy and confidence, shrink-wraps it in embarrassment, and tells us that the only place we are worthy to stand is in the shadows. For the Christian, Jesus assures us that this is not true, for our shame has been accounted for – He bore it, carried it, was wounded and crushed for it. Shame no longer holds the power over us – the gospel of our salvation holds all the power, and because of that we can stand in the light, unashamed.
This is the good news we are called to proclaim – the power of God’s salvation – and we should never be ashamed to share it with anyone. It is for everyone. Everyone needs it and they need to hear about it.
Sometimes, maybe more so with family, we choose to let our lives be the witness, but is this really good enough? We want to see our families saved but we can shy away from verbally witnessing because we don’t want to turn them off by ‘preaching’. Amazingly (although it shouldn’t amaze us) God has the ability to guide us and grant us the wisdom to find the balance. We need to trust Him and believe in the power of His Word.
So shall my word be that goes out from my mouth; it shall not return to me empty, but it shall accomplish that which I purpose, and shall succeed in the thing for which I sent it. Isaiah 55:11
This is the power of the Word of God. When we speak out the gospel of Christ; when we speak out the love of God; when we speak out the truth of His Word, something happens. This should be a real encouragement for us, knowing that it is impossible for God’s words to go out and achieve nothing. So let us not hold back in speaking the good news.
There is power in the gospel – power to save lives.
