Ready Feet

Before leaving the house, most of us will choose our footwear based on where we are going. If it is a quick nip to the shops, it’s the default everyday shoe. Going to the gym, it is trainers, or heading for a hike it’s the walking boots, and if you are going for a spin in your wheelchair, it can be a pair of groovy socks. Different wares for different places. So, wherever we are going, our feet are ready. The shoes of ‘readiness’ though, (or ‘preparation’ KJV), are not about going anywhere, they are about being able to stand, withstand and standing firm spiritually. Whatever the situation, our spiritual feet should always be prepared.

Being reconciled to God, through Christ, we have access to the power of the Spirit. It is within this relationship and in the strength of his might (v10) that we are able to stand ready, against all that the devil would throw at us. Having this power and inner sense of peace allows us the confidence to stand strong in the protection of the Lord. We have no greater defence than the gospel of Christ – a gospel that makes demons tremble!

God wants us to rely on Him because He is the one who ‘gives power to the faint, and to him who has no might he increases strength’ (Isaiah 40:29). Being prepared for every circumstance is to put on our spiritual shoes of readiness and stand in the truth of God’s commitment to never leave us or forsake us.
