Make The Day Count

How many times have you found yourself counting the days? It is something we do for so many things – counting the days until the holiday, retirement, the arrival of a baby, a new car, the promotion, an operation. Each day of the countdown is marked off the calendar with excitement, apprehension, or even fear. In among the counting, we have productive days, lazy days, fun days, anxious days, and days we wish we could do over again.

In Psalm 39:4, David demands to know, ‘What is the measure of my days?’ He wants to be told a number because he is in distress and longs to know how much more he has to endure. In contrast, the voice in Psalm 90 is that of Moses, who comes with a different longing regarding the number of allocated days. Because of their brevity, he comes reverently, knowing that time needs to be respected, understood, and dealt with wisely.

This would be a beautiful way to start each one of our days. Opening our heart to the Father and asking Him to fill us with His pure love to nourish and sustain our spirit for the day ahead. God has granted each of us a span of days, each one of which is precious and should be observed with a heart of wisdom. There is something to be learned each and every day, in every situation, for God is always teaching us, guiding us and revealing new things to us, including wonderful things about Himself.
