Preparation and Provision

We serve a good God. A God who not only visits the earth with His goodness, but who visits His people, so that He can greatly enrich them. Just as the river flowed through Eden to sustain the life within it, God pours His life-giving rains upon us that we might flourish.

Our appreciation of this enrichment can waiver at times and we wrestle with God, concerning His goodness, when bad things happen. This struggle can go two ways. We either keep our heart soft towards Him and allow His grace to carry us through, or, we resist His grace, hold tighter to the pain/anger/confusion/frustration and allow our hearts to slowly harden towards Him. If we take the latter route, Proverbs tells us that whoever hardens his heart will fall into calamity (28:14). God does not want us to stay in a place of distress, for it’s a place where His voice becomes faint. He wants us to hear His voice, so that He can lead us to the waters of restoration.

The refreshing rains of the Lord, softens our hard edges. As they pour upon us, we receive God’s good blessing, restoring us and strengthening us to produce good things; a bountiful harvest of spiritual fruit. God prepares the ground to receive the seed that He has provided for it. Likewise, He prepares our hearts to receive the seed of His Word, for it provides all that we need to live for Him.
