For the LORD is good; his steadfast love endures forever, and his faithfulness to all generations. Psalm 100:5
There can be times and seasons in our lives when we find it difficult to be completely accepting of the truth that God is good. Probably the main reason we find it difficult is because we are actually experiencing a difficult situation which does not seem to have anything ‘good’ about it. As we go through hard and trying times, the goodness of God can feel absent, which can lead us down the road of questions and pleas, not unlike David:
I say to God, my rock: “Why have you forgotten me?” Awake! Why are you sleeping, O Lord? Why do you hide your face? Give ear to my prayer, O God, and hide not yourself from my plea for mercy! (Psalms 42:9, 44:23-24, 55:1)
On our worse days, we can be absolutely certain of this truth – our God is still good. He never sleeps. His eyes are always toward the righteous and His ears are always open to our cry (Ps34:15). His presence never leaves us, His love remains steadfast, and His faithfulness is constant.
Know that the LORD, he is God! It is he who made us, and we are his; we are his people, and the sheep of his pasture. Psalm 100:3
What a reassuring truth – we are His – and to be His means that we are surrounded, on all sides, by the impenetrable love of God. Added to that, we experience His continual faithfulness and a goodness that follows us all the days of our lives.
Give thanks to the Lord, for He is good, and His goodness never fails.
