Behold, how good and pleasant it is when brothers dwell in unity! Psalm 133:1
How far do we go to live in harmony with one another; what is the threshold before we decide that it is not worth the bother? Harmony is such a pleasant sound, whereas bickering and gossiping is like nails down a blackboard – it makes you shudder. People will inevitably irk us from time to time and rub us up the wrong way. We will sometimes need to endure hurtful comments (and sometimes we will be the ones dishing them out) but this behaviour only leads to discord, and discord is, well… inharmonious.
Aim for restoration, comfort one another, agree with one another, live in peace; and the God of love and peace will be with you. 2 Corinthians 13:11
God’s word encourages us that as far as it depends on us, we should live in peace with everyone. But this mindset and behaviour is only achievable through genuine love – the love of a holy and righteous God flowing out through us, for this is the only thing which binds everything together in perfect harmony (Colossians 3:14). Let us continually work towards having a heart filled will genuine love so that we can worship together with the sound of genuine harmony.
May the God of endurance and encouragement grant you to live in such harmony with one another, in accord with Christ Jesus. Romans 15:5
