Just as we have been approved by God to be entrusted with the gospel, so we speak, not to please man, but to please God who tests our hearts. 1 Thessalonians 2:4
Pleasing others in our day-to-day lives can be a tall order at times. It can be complicated and it often takes us to a place of compromise. When it come to the truth of the gospel, however, there should be no compromise. The apostle Paul said:
For am I now seeking the approval of man, or of God? Or am I trying to please man? If I were still trying to please man, I would not be a servant of Christ. Galatians 1:10
As servants of God, we have been entrusted with the gospel and we are to share it truthfully. This means not watering it down or bending it to fit in with what someone is comfortable hearing. God’s truth is not to be tampered with. The gospel of Jesus Christ is not told in order to make the hearer feel good about themselves, its purpose is to save their soul by bringing them to repentance.
Although people pleasing is tricky and not always achievable, the ability to please God is most definitely within our reach. The Lord knows our hearts and he knows our intentions. By His strength we have the courage to be bold about the gospel and to stand firm in our conviction.
…to walk in a manner worthy of the Lord, fully pleasing to him, bearing fruit in every good work… Colossians 1:10
When we focus on staying true to God as we share His good news, we cannot fail to bring Him joy and pleasure.
