Walking with Rahab

When Joshua sent the spies into Jericho, Rahab confessed, ‘we have heard how the Lord dried up the water of the Red Sea before you, and what you did to the two kings, Sihon and Og, and our hearts melted, and there was no spirit left in any man because of you.’ Rahab recognised the power and the authority of the LORD God of Israel and knew she had a choice to make. She could choose life or she could choose death. It was the same choice that God had given his own people just a short time before: “See, I have set before you today life and good, death and evil. By loving the Lord your God, by walking in his ways, and by keeping his commandments and his statutes and his rules, then you shall live, and the Lord shall bless you” (Deut30).

Rahab chose life, for she chose to walk in the ways of God, and God blessed her and changed her life completely. She married Salmon, from the line of Judah, and they had a son called Boaz who would marry a girl called Ruth. God had incredible plans for Rahab – plans that she could never have imagined – for she would become the great-great-grandmother of king David.

Rahab first saw the evidence of the Lord’s strength and power all around her, and then she witnessed it as she stepped into his plan for her life. Each of us can experience this same strength and power in our own lives when we embrace the amazing plans that God has for us.
