WALKING WITH THOSE WHO WALKED WITH GOD
The Lord used to speak to Moses face to face, as a man speaks to his friend. Exodus 33:11
I know we are not supposed to be jealous or envious, but I have to admit that I am a little bit envious of Moses. I have heard God speak to me through his word and through his Spirit and I cherish that communion, but to hear the audible voice of the Lord – isn’t that the longing of every Christian?
Moses was a humble man, humble and faithful. He may have been raised as a prince but he knew which King he belonged to. He had a heart for the people and he pleaded for them on so many occasions. He wasn’t afraid to ask God anything and at the same time, he feared God in everything. The character of Moses was such, that the Lord listened to his pleas and requests:
And the Lord said to Moses, “This very thing that you have spoken I will do, for you have found favour in my sight, and I know you by name.” (33:17)
I guess that this is where my envy lies; to ask God a direct question and immediately receive a direct answer. Wouldn’t that make life so much easier? Maybe, but we are no less fortunate than Moses. The word of God came audibly to Moses who was instructed to write it down, and so the bible began. We now have the privilege of holding that word in our hands.
Although it is true that Moses was someone whom the Lord knew face to face (Deut34:10), we know him spirit to Spirit and he reveals himself to us every time we seek him. Never be afraid to pour out your heart to God, for his ear is always open and the faithful find favour in his sight.
Be encouraged, for God knows you by name, and when you speak, He listens.
