God's Word, Listening to God

Can I Have Your Attention, Please?

The Word of God was written for our benefit; your benefit.  Held within every page of the Bible there is instruction, direction and guidance; there is strength, comfort and hope. It contains true stories of real people with real lives that we can relate to today. Stories of conflict and war, oppression and poverty, famine and disease, betrayal and pain. Weaving through these stories we also see courage and boldness, resilience and resolve, trust and faith. We see the wonder, the beauty and the glory of God revealed through justice, mercy, grace and love.

Listening to God through his word should be at the top of the ‘to-do’ list every day. Yet, how often does it slip so far down that it fails to get done? When we do listen, are we paying attention to what we have heard or are we just glancing in the mirror and forgetting what we’ve seen? The writer to the Hebrews warns us that if we do not give God’s Word the attention it deserves, we will be in danger of drifting away from it.
