Therefore do not throw away your confidence, which has a great reward. Hebrews 10:35
It’s frightening how easily the words of one person can dent your confidence and potentially knock you off course. There you are walking down a particular path, which you are absolutely sure the Lord has led you on, and then something is said that makes you stop. Before you know it, you are questioning the direction you’re walking because the words that you’ve heard are causing you to question yourself.
Blessed are those whose strength is in you [God], in whose heart are the highways to Zion. Psalm 84:5
Walking the path that God has set you on will have potholes and brambles along the way. Other people will have various opinions about what you’re doing or where you’re heading, but they are just that – personal opinions. The Lord Jesus was bombarded with other people’s opinions on a daily basis, and yet his confidence in the work he was doing was unshaken. What was it that sustained him? The knowledge that the path was chosen by God ‘to do the will of him who sent me and to accomplish his work’ (John 4:34).
For the LORD will be your confidence and will keep your foot from being caught. Proverbs 3:26
Don’t throw away your confidence; remember where it comes from. As Eliphaz said to Job, “Is not your fear of God your confidence, and the integrity of your ways your hope?” (Job 4:6). When you choose to walk the paths of God – when his highways are in your heart – he will keep your feet from being tangled in the unhelpful opinions of others.
Remain faithful to the One who is your confidence and you will find great reward when you trust in his leading.
