And let the peace of Christ rule in your hearts, to which indeed you were called in one body. And be thankful. Colossians 3:15
“All I need is two minutes of peace and quiet.” Have you ever said that? I am sure that most of us have. Peace is wonderful – it doesn’t irritate or aggravate but brings a sense of calm, being tranquil and restful. The peace of Christ brings all of that and more, for it brings his beautiful stillness to the mind and soul.
We long for this kind of peace and yet, so often, we let the busyness rule, we let the chaos rule, we let the anxious thoughts rule in our hearts. All the things that cause us to feel unsettled – those are the ones that take up residence.
My peace I leave with you; my peace I give to you. Not as the world gives do I give to you. Let not your hearts be troubled, neither let them be afraid. John 14:27
The world can offer relaxing breaks in tranquil surrounding; it can provide seminars and ‘how-to’ manuals by the latest lifestyle coach, with techniques for finding your own peace. Most are good in their own way, but they all have one major flaw – they are all temporary. Jesus is the only one that can give us lasting peace, and we don’t have to go anywhere to find it, for he has put his peace within all those who have put their faith in him.
And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus. Philippians 4:7
Allow the peace of Christ to rule in your heart, and let it guard your mind against everything that would cause you fear.
