I will trust, and will not be afraid; for the LORD GOD is my strength and my song, and he has become my salvation. Isaiah 12:2
This verse is a powerful declaration of faith: The Lord is my strength, my song, my salvation! What a privilege it is to personally know, and believe, this truth. This truth, however, produces a challenge – I will trust, and not be afraid. We often manage the first part because it was through our trust in God that we received his salvation. The challenge here is not to be afraid, and yet fear is something we can’t seem to avoid.
The devil wants to keep us in a constant state of fear; the fear of losing the job, the fear of a diagnosis, the fear of going it alone, the fear of debt, disability, depression, decisions, the future. The devil burdens our minds with all kinds of fears, and the weight of them can play havoc with our trust in God.
Let us also lay aside every weight, and sin which clings so closely, and let us run with endurance the race that is set before us. Hebrews 12:1
We don’t need endurance for the easy things in life, we need it for the difficult and challenging things. The second verse of Hebrews 12 tells us that Jesus endured the cross, and in Matthew 10:22 Jesus himself assures us that ‘the one who endures to the end will be saved,’ and that ‘by your endurance you will gain your lives’ (Luke 21:19).
For you have need of endurance, so that when you have done the will of God you may receive what is promised. Hebrews 10:36
The promise we have is eternal salvation in the kingdom of God, and in his kingdom there is no fear, for it has been cast out by his perfect love. All of God’s promises prove true, which is why we can trust without fear.
Today’s verse is a powerful declaration of faith, so declare it as often as you need to until it becomes your reality.
