Forgiveness

Psalm 32:1 – Blessed is the one whose transgression is forgiven, whose sin is covered.

We can have absolute confidence that, if we confess our sins, all of our wrong doing will be forgiven, for the Lord is a God of forgiveness. When Moses presented himself on Mount Sinai with the two new tablets, the Lord descended in a cloud and proclaimed:

“The Lord, the Lord, a God merciful and gracious, slow to anger, and abounding in steadfast love and faithfulness, forgiving iniquity and transgression and sin.” (Exodus 34)

God pours out his blessing upon every person who pours who their heart to him in honest confession. David confessed and said, “I acknowledged my sin to you, and I did not cover my iniquity…and you forgave…” (Ps 32:5). Through this forgiveness we are reconciled to God; a reconciliation that is only possible because of Christ. “For our sake, God made him to be sin who knew no sin.”

Christ received the punishment so that we could receive the blessing. May we never become complacent regarding the cost of forgiveness.
