God’s Big Love

Ephesians 3:18,19 – May (you) have strength to comprehend with all the saints what is the breadth and length and height and depth, and to know the love of Christ that surpasses knowledge, that you may be filled with all the fullness of God.

There are many things about God that we will never understand this side of eternity, and God’s love is one of those things that we will never fully grasp. We know, and believe, that He loves us. We sing a lot of songs and hymns about God’s amazing love, a love divine all loves excelling, vast as the ocean and as high as the heavens above, and yet, it is so marvellous and so wonderful that we cannot completely comprehend it. His love is too big for us to fully understand.

God’s love is being poured out upon us continually, surrounding us completely and filling every possible space of our being. He wants us to feel the depth of his love in our heart and soul, for from that source we display his love, and pass it on. The source never runs dry and although the input from him is constantly and consistently high, sometimes the output from us is low.

It is no surprise that the reason for this is that God’s love is unconditional, but our is not. We would like it be, and hopefully we are striving for it to be, but there are still times when we find it difficult to love. It is in these times that we need to turn to prayer. If you are having a hard time loving someone, then pray for them.

You have heard that it was said, ‘You shall love your neighbour and hate your enemy.’ But I say to you, love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you. Matthew 5:43-44

I won’t lie, this is challenging, but this is the breadth and length and height and depth of God’s big love. If we want to grow in him, we need to grow in his love.

Let your experience of God’s love toward you, guide you and help you in extending that love outward.
