God's Presence, Listening to God, Promises

Look, Listen and Trust

The Prophet Zephaniah

Seek the Lord, all you humble of the land, who do his just commands; seek righteousness; seek humility; perhaps you may be hidden on the day of the anger of the Lord. Zephaniah 2:3

I know that I have been saved by God’s grace and because of that I no longer need to fear the final judgement, but truthfully, I still fear making God angry. Zephaniah tells us that rebelling against God in any way is dangerous, and has consequences. But surely the Christian is no longer a rebel, right?

Woe to her who is rebellious. She listens to no voice; she accepts no correction. She does not trust in the Lord; she does not draw near to her God. Zephaniah 3:1-2

Are we always drawing near to God, listening to his voice and trusting his way, or are we still prone to rebellion, adamant in our own way and unwilling to accept correction? It is true that we are all born at a disadvantage, for as pure as a newborn baby is, we all enter this world tainted by sin and surrounded by temptation. This is why we need to continually seek the Lord, seek righteousness and seek humility. Living to please ourselves leads nowhere good, but living to please God leads us somewhere amazing.

The Lord your God is in your midst, a mighty one who will save; he will rejoice over you with gladness; he will quiet you by his love; he will exult over you with loud singing. Zephaniah 3:17

When you give yourself to God completely, he rejoices over you; when the world is noisy and chaotic, he will quiet you by his love; when you doubt that you are worthy, he will sing over you, lifting your spirit to new heights. What a Saviour. Draw near to Him, listen for his correction and trust his directing.

How blessed we are to have the Spirit who leads us, the Son who prays for us and the Father who rejoices over us.
