Holding fast to the Head, from whom the whole body, nourished and knit together through its joints and ligaments, grows with a growth that is from God. Colossians 2:19
The decision to trust Jesus and hand your life over to the will of God, is most certainly a solo act. There is no such thing as a Christian-by-proxy, for no-one else’s faith will ever make you right with God; the decision is yours, and yours alone. Once you have taken that step, however, you become a part of the whole concert.
There is one God and one Church. One Bridegroom and one Bride. We are, collectively, knit together to make up the whole body, which is nourished by the Word of God. Everything that we need flows from the Head down, enriching every part of us. We are spiritually connected individuals with a responsibility to care for one another.
Bearing with one another in love, eager to maintain the unity of the Spirit in the bond of peace. Ephesians 4:2-3
If you remain a solo act, you cannot retain a unity of spirit, and in order to be effective witnesses for Christ, we need to be united – together. If you look at the believers in Acts 2, you will see what it means to grow with a growth that is from God, and being together was the key. They devoted themselves to the teaching of the Word, remembering the Lord’s death, and praying together. As each individual grew spiritually stronger, the whole body of believers grew stronger. Having fellowship and socialising with each another, they were able to encourage, care for, and address the needs of one another.
And the Lord added to their number day by day those who were being saved. Acts 2:47
When we, as individuals, hold fast to the Headship of Christ collectively, we will see the power of God flow through the whole body; and we will watch the Church grow.
