Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, for they shall be satisfied. Matt 5:6
Have you ever filled in a Customer Satisfaction survey? The company will have a list of topics and an area of service within each one and they ask you to choose whether you were –
highly satisfied ~ satisfied ~ neither satisfied or dissatisfied ~ dissatisfied ~ highly dissatisfied.
The survey could be for the helpfulness of the staff, the cleanliness of the room, the wait time for your order, the overall level of service, etc. The problem with some surveys is the length of them, and by the time you are halfway through, you are just ticking the middle one randomly in order to get it finished. Everybody loves a survey. The truth is, we mostly vote with our feet. When we find a restaurant or hotel that ticks the boxes, a place that satisfies our need, we will keep going back.
We have so many needs on a purely physical level. We need food, water, rest, company, activity, sleep, security, belonging, warmth, love, friendship, and much more. If you had to fill in a survey for this list, how would it look? On top of the physical we also have deep spiritual needs that require attention. Sometimes it takes us longer to work these ones out.
We often come to God with our wants first. ‘I want this, I want to see that, I want to go there, I want to do…’ which may all be good things, but through continual reading of God’s word we begin to recognise our true needs, and all those ‘wants’ condense down to just one – ‘I want to live right’. Blessed are you, says the Lord, for you shall be satisfied.
God will supply every need of yours according to his riches in glory in Christ Jesus. Phil 4:19
True satisfaction in life only comes from God. He ticks all the boxes and only in Him alone will we ever be highly satisfied.
