And whatever you do, whether in word or deed, do it all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through him. Colossians 3:17
In Colossians 3, verses 12 through 17, Paul gives good counsel on how to live Christian lives that honour God. When we think of our own salvation, we are acutely aware that we did not receive it based on our own words or deeds. They fell far short of God’s requirement. Grace was needed. Jesus took the weight of the Father’s grace and mercy when he sacrificed himself for our sins.
Therefore, God has highly exalted him and bestowed on him the name that is above every name, so that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, in heaven and on earth and under the earth. Philippians 2:9,10
There is authority and honour in the name of Jesus, so whatever [we] do, whether in word or deed, it should in no way challenge that authority or bring dishonour to his name. We are to be compassionate and kind in honour of Jesus. We are to bear with one another and be patient, in his name. We forgive each other, as the Father has forgiven us, and we extend the grace that the Lord Jesus paid for us to receive.
Every part of our behaviour, all that we say and do should be clothed in grace. We belong to God, and Christ lives in us, so every word and action belongs to him and reflects him.
Christians carry the name of Christ, so let us honour that name through all that we do.
