Attention Seeking

Therefore we must pay much closer attention to what we have heard, lest we drift away from it. Hebrews 2:1

Billboards, TV ads, front page headlines, posters and flyers are all used to try to get your attention. Newspapers and magazines use titles and images to shock and intrigue you into buying them. Companies entice you to buy their product by using powerful graphics or simple jingles that stick in your mind. There is not a day that goes by which doesn’t have someone trying, and succeeding, to grab your attention.

Often, in the middle of all that noise, God is also seeking your attention. How much of it does He get on any given day, or in a week, or in a month? God wants to draw you back from the enticement of all that is temporal, and refocus on that which is eternal. He wants your mind focused on kingdom purpose, on the things that truly matter, things that actually enhance the experience of being in the world, but not of it.

Be attentive to my words; incline your ear to my sayings. Let them not escape from your sight; keep them within your heart. For they are life to those who find them Prov 4:20-22. I came that they may have life and have it abundantly John 10:10.

It seems that every company out there has a product that will make your life better. Which one is grabbing your focus? Get choosey about who gets to have your attention and don’t let it drift away from the One who deserves it most of all.

God’s promise to make your life better is the real deal, so incline your ear, pay close attention, and live abundantly.
