Promises, Truth

Meditating on the Truth of God’s Word

Always By Your Side

Behold, I am with you and will keep you wherever you go… For I will not leave you until I have done what I have promised you. Genesis 28:15

Sometimes we make the mistake of thinking that parts of God’s word do not apply to us personally because they were spoken to a specific individual or group of people. Maybe you look at today’s verse and wish you were Jacob, having those words spoken over you.

This promise may have been given directly to Jacob, but its purpose is not to tell us about Jacob, it is to tell us about God. Does God favour one child above another or hand out extra blessings to selected groups? Not one of us is any more deserving than another, for we are all equally flawed. God therefore gives his mercy and his grace equally to all. God also gives his promises equally, to all who give their lives to follow him.

If you are a Christian, then the God of Jacob is the God of you. What then, does this verse tell you about your God? It tells you that He does not intend for you to walk this narrow path alone. God will journey with you, and will never leave your side until you make it home.

I am with you and will keep you wherever you go… For I will not leave you until I have done what I have promised you.

Meditate on the truth of this scripture. God will never leave you. He is always by your side.
