God's Word

Copy God’s Word

He shall write for himself in a book a copy of this law. Deuteronomy 17:18

This was a command given by God, through Moses, to all the people, concerning their future kings. The LORD knew that in the years to come, (approx. 360 years’ time), the Israelites would want a human king to rule over them, just like the nations around them. Being the same as everyone else was not how God wanted them to live, so He set a command in place. Every king would be required to personally write out a copy of God’s law.

Have you ever taken the time to write out a passage of scripture, or even a verse? Dr David Jeremiah has said:

“Something wonderful happens as I take time to slow down and write out a passage of Scripture. New details stick out. Phrases I’ve skimmed over for years jump out at me. It’s as if the words I’m copying flow from the paper through the ink and into my heart.”

There really is indeed something special about writing out God’s word. Whether it’s a verse or a whole passage, the act of physically writing the words makes it incredibly personal.

If you want to slow down the pace of your day, get your bible, a notebook and pen, and choose a favourite verse. Then, as you write, allow the words to flow through the ink and into your heart.
