Heavenly Battle

Daniel 10:13 – The prince of the kingdom of Persia with stood me twenty-one days, but Michael, one of the chief princes, came to help me, for I was left there with the kings of Persia.

Do you believe in angels? What about warrior angels who fight to protect a country and those who fight to protect God’s people? I do believe this to be true and to think that one of the heavenly host stands guard over a collective group that includes me, completely blows my mind.

The answer to Daniel’s prayer was delayed because of unseen forces at work. The devil was more than happy for Israel and Judah to remain in captivity and to worship everything but the true God. He appointed princes to watch over the unrighteous across the globe and to ensure that their path to destruction was not hindered in any way. The mission of these princes was to fight anything that tried to disrupt that process, especially messages of hope and revelation from the Lord. So, when an angel was sent to Daniel, the prince of Persia went out to stop that meeting and a 21-day battle commenced.

This is why is it vital that we clothe ourselves in Ephesians 6 every day. The battles that we fight on a daily basis are mirrored by heavenly battles taking place on our behalf. The apostle Paul was not exaggerating when he said that our fight was not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the cosmic powers over this present darkness and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly places. It is also why he pointed out that when you follow the course of this world, you are following the prince of the power of the air (Eph2:2).

When the angel had delivered the Lord’s message to Daniel, he was returning to the heavenly battle: “Now I will return to the fight against the prince of Persia; and when I go out, behold, the prince of Greece will come: there is none who contends by my side against these except Michael, your prince.

Whether you believe in angels or not, spiritual warfare is real and it is taking place on your behalf every day. Prayer has power and when you pray, you enter the battlefield. So, even if answers don’t come as quickly as you would like, never doubt that God is on your side and fighting for your good.
