Daniel, God's Will, The Kingdom of God

Power and Glory

Daniel 2:47 – The king answered and said to Daniel, “Truly, your God is God of gods and Lord of kings, and a revealer of mysteries, for you have been able to reveal this mystery.”

The king’s guard, Arioch, arranged for Daniel to stand before Nebuchadnezzar to tell him his dream. Daniel wanted to be clear that he, personally, could not tell him what the dream was and neither could any wise man in the country, but – “there is a God in heaven who reveals mysteries and he has made known to King Nebuchadnezzar what will be in the latter days.”

The image that the king had seen in his dream had a head of fine gold, arms and chest of silver, a middle and thighs of bronze, legs of iron and feet of iron and clay. A stone then struck the image and shattered it into pieces ‘and the wind carried them away, so that not a trace of them could be found. But the stone that struck the image became a great mountain and filled the whole earth.’

Daniel revealed that the head of gold represented Nebuchadnezzar himself and that he was king over kings. He held the kingdom, the power and the glory, ruling over the children of man, all livestock and every bird of the sky. Babylon, however, would not always rule and one by one, inferior kingdoms would come to power until a stone from a great mountain would put an end to their reign and rule in their stead forever.

God was letting Nebuchadnezzar know that everything he had was because He allowed it but a time was coming when the kingdoms of man would fall away completely. A kingdom was coming that would reign forever –

The God of heaven will set up a kingdom that shall never be destroyed. It shall break in pieces all these kingdoms and bring them to an end, and it shall stand forever.

All power on earth is inferior to God’s power, whether it’s the silver of Medes-Persia, the bronze of Greece or the iron of Rome, with each one falling to the next. As a child of God, you belong to the ‘forever-kingdom’ that will never pass away. The Messiah brought the kingdom of God to earth and with every new believer, the kingdom grows.

Daniel was blessed with wisdom and was granted a position of influence within the court of the king. You may feel insignificant compared to Daniel but the power of heaven lives within you, as a son or daughter of the kingdom, which can influence and change others for the better. God has placed you where you are for a reason. Pray continually, listen consistently and trust completely.

For thine is the kingdom, the power and the glory forever… Amen.
