Lessons from Jesus, Prayer

Belonging

High Priestly Prayer – vs 6-10

John 17: 10 – “All mine are yours, and yours are mine, and I am glorified in them.”

Everyone wants to belong because it is where a lot of people find their identity. In joining groups or organisations of like-minded people, there is the sense of finding value and worth in yourself and feeling like you finally belong to something. Of all the things/places that I have belonged to over the years, the One that has given me my true identity is in belonging to Jesus and to the Father. So, how did this ‘belonging’ come about?

“I have given them the words that you gave me, and they have received them and have come to know in truth that I came from you; and they have believed that you sent me.”

When we hear the Word of God, receive it as truth and believe that Jesus, the Son of God, came to earth as Christ the Saviour, we are changed by faith into a child of God and we belong to Him. Identity secured.

And just when you thought it couldn’t get any better than belonging to Jesus, listen to what He says next:

“I am praying for them. I am not praying for the world but for those whom you have given me, for they are yours.”

If you have given your life to Jesus, He is praying for you. Really think about that for a moment – Jesus is praying for you! This isn’t a generic pray for everyone on earth, it is specifically for all those who belong to the Father. For the Father has given them to his Son for safe keeping. Jesus cares for you so much; for your safety, your wellbeing, your spiritual growth. Everything about you matters because you are of great value and worth to God.

Today, remember this incredible blessing – Jesus holds you in his heart and he is praying for you.
