The Right Shoes

Ephesians 6:15

And, as shoes for your feet, having put on the readiness given by the gospel of peace.

We all have different shoes for different things, whether we are going walking, running, dancing or shopping, we like to have the right footwear for each occasion. The shoes of ‘readiness’ (or ‘preparation’ KJV) are not about going anywhere, they are about being able to stand, withstand and standing firm.

The good news of the gospel brings us to a reconciliation with God and gives us peace with God. It is within this relationship and in the strength of his might (v10) that we are able to stand ready, against all that the Devil would throw at us. Having this inner sense of peace allows us the confidence to stand strong in the protection of the Lord. We have no greater defence than the gospel of Christ – a gospel that makes demons tremble!

God wants us to rely on Him because He is the one who gives power to the faint, and to him who has no might he increases strength (Isa40). Being prepared for each occasion is to put on the shoes of readiness and stand in the truth of God’s commitment to never leave you or forsake you.

Fear not, for I am with you; be not dismayed, for I am your God; I will strengthen you, I will help you, I will uphold you with my righteous right hand.

Isaiah 41:10
