Nothing Hidden

Proverbs 20:27

The spirit of man is the lamp of the Lord, searching all his innermost parts.

There is a lot of ourselves that we keep locked away from others. Hidden thoughts and desires, whether recent or past, that we don’t want known. Maybe it is from embarrassment, maybe from shame, a past indiscretion that you don’t want to think about let alone talk about. We filter feelings and behaviour to only show what we perceive to be acceptable.

There’s no hiding from God. He has an all access pass to every thought, every word, every action, every desire. He can illuminate every dark corner and search them out. He wants us to acknowledge them and hand them over to His forgiveness.

As the Psalmist said, ‘You have searched me and known me’. He knows when we sit, when we rise, when we lie down; He discerns our thoughts, every word on our tongue and is acquainted with all our ways. This may feel a bit scary but it is actually a great relief because with the Lord we don’t have to pretend, we just have to be honest. He died for every sin and that includes everything we feel embarrassed or ashamed of. We don’t have to tell the world about it but we do have to confess it before God and then let Him carry it for us.

Prayer: Search me, O God, and know my heart! Try me and know my thoughts and see if there be any grievous way in me, and lead me in the way everlasting. Amen.
