Choose Wisely

Psalm 1

Blessed is the man who walks not in the counsel of the wicked, nor stands in the way of sinners, nor sits in the seat of scoffers; but his delight is in the law of the Lord, and on his law he meditates day and night.

Psalm 1 contrasts the way of the righteous with the way of the wicked. Everything that the wicked do is motivated by selfish ambition and for the purpose of selfish gain. They only law they follow is their own; they spend their time scheming together and scoffing at others. They make plans to get rich, which may last for a season, but in the end, when the sifting begins, they are like chaff that the wind drives away. All that have chosen that path will perish.

The righteous are called to stand apart from the wicked and not to get caught up in their ways. Blessing comes when we follow God’s law and take pleasure in His Word. It truly is the bread of life which is why we need to meditate day and night upon it.

Meditating on God’s Word refreshes the body and soul, like a tree planted by streams of water, it brings nourishment and creates strong healthy roots. The Lord is the cultivator and by remaining true to His way, we will have a life that yields its fruit in its season and does not wither.

The Lord knows the way of the righteous and only those who live for Him will live with Him for all eternity.
