Galatians 5:25
If we live by the Spirit, let us also walk by the Spirit.
When we talk about our Christian life, we sometimes refer to it as our walk with God. This isn’t surprising as the New Testament is filled with verses that tell us how we should walk.
For example, we should walk in Purity (Rom13:13), Contentment (1Cor 7:17), Faith (2Cor 5:7), Truth (3John 3:4) and Righteousness (1John 3:7). Paul’s letter to the Ephesians talks about walking in Good Works (2:10), Humility (4:2), Love (5:2), Light (5:8) and Wisdom (5:15).
All these things are only possible, however, if we walk in the Spirit; letting Him lead us. That means staying close to Him, not running off ahead on your own or drifting far behind.
God’s desire for us is that we become conformed to the image of His Son. Isn’t that your goal too, to become more Christlike? The fruit of the Spirit are the characteristics of Jesus, so the only way to become more like Him is to walk with Him. The Holy Spirit is our helper, guide and teacher. This tells me that patience, kindness, goodness, gentleness and self-control are not things that come naturally to us but are to be learned.
This change in attitude and behaviour comes by the renewing of our mind; a transformation that is only possible by the Spirit of God. 2 Corinthians 3:18 says, ‘And we all, with unveiled face, beholding the glory of the Lord, are being transformed into the same image from one degree of glory to another. For this comes from the Lord who is the Spirit’.
Bit by bit, day by day, we are being changed by the power of God for His glory. How great is our God.
